The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator (DEI Coordinator) with Brown’s Pre-College Programs offers an opportunity for a graduate student to meet the expectations of a full-time professional role, gain practical experience in student life, develop leadership abilities, and hone supervision skills, in addition to many other transferable skills that prepare them to excel in any future position in higher education.
The DEI Coordinator position serves as an active contributor and educator within the division of Pre-College and Undergraduate Programs who is responsible for helping to build more systems of support for students who self-identify in one or more of the University HUG categories. The DEI Coordinator will accomplish this outcome by fostering meaningful relationships between members of the Brown community and pre-college students, providing spaces and opportunities for students to gather and share their experiences with others who hold the same identities, exposing pre-college students to Brown and creating opportunities for them to be able to see themselves at Brown in the future, advising and mentoring students, responding to community concerns, supervising seasonal staff, and supporting administrative and operational functions for the Division.
This role works closely with colleagues and other offices to deliver an intentional co-curricular living-learning environment for Pre-College students who hold marginalized identities. This position includes a significant amount of responsibility and the staff hired are treated as professional staff with autonomy and independent problem-solving opportunities. Staff are expected to display professionalism, maturity, positive role modeling behavior, and good judgement at all times. This is an intense and fast-paced environment with atypical working hours that requires flexibility and constant attention. The large size of the Brown Pre-College Programs lends itself to a unique opportunity to engage with a diverse group of participants from around the world. The DEI Coordinator will supervise a seasonal staff team and work collaboratively with a team of professional colleagues to provide an exceptional experience for our students. Night and weekend work is required.
