This position is assigned to the Acute Disease Investigations Unit, Infectious Disease Prevention and Investigation Section, Bureau of Epidemiology. Members of the Unit serve as Bureau of Epidemiology liaisons with the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Public Health Laboratories. The Unit supports county health departments with disease surveillance and reporting, case investigations, outbreak investigations, implementation of control measures to interrupt disease transmission or mitigate adverse health impact, and planned studies of important public health problems in the state. The epidemiologist will also provide epidemiologic expertise as part of project teams within and outside the Bureau of Epidemiology and be a key responder and technical specialist during public health emergency activations.

 

Serves as Bureau of Epidemiology liaison with the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories. Works with Bureau of Public Health Laboratories staff to develop and implement policies and protocols for laboratory testing of specimens associated with reportable diseases, outbreak investigations, and other samples of special interest to the Department. Provides epidemiologic consultation to laboratory staff on matters of public health interest. Assists county health department staff with the selection of diagnostic tests and requirements for specimen collection, handling, packaging, and shipping to the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories. Assists county health departments with the interpretation of laboratory results.
