The Clinical Epidemiology Section in the Critical Care Medicine Department of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, America’s Research Hospital, is seeking a highly motivated statistician to support and amplify their award-winning research enterprise. The Clinical Epidemiology Section has a wealth of experience in conducting cutting edge epidemiological research of national and global significance that has impacted patient care, disease prevention, public health, clinical operations, and healthcare policy. Members of this section have secured several NIH, interagency and foundational grants for research and have won several accolades for their research including awards from NIH Director and NIH Clinical Center CEO, and T.H. Chan Harvard School of Public Health.
The candidate will work in an academic environment as a member of a multidisciplinary team of highly diverse, productive, and enthusiastic individuals including epidemiologists, informaticists, physicians, pharmacists, microbiologists, policy experts and project managers who work towards a common goal of improving outcomes in sick patients. Collaborative opportunities are broad and include areas of high consequence and impact such as antimicrobial resistance, critical illness and sepsis, COVID-19, other emerging pathogens, healthcare delivery, observational studies, and bioinformatics, including opportunities for collaborative work with other federal agencies such as CDC and FDA.
The Ideal Candidate for this position will be an exceptionally talented, knowledgeable, and motivated Statistician with a Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics or Biostatistics, and experience in epidemiology and in analyzing large datasets.
The Mathematical Statistician serves as the statistician for the Clinical Epidemiology Section in its research and operational projects which are expected to meet national and international standards for excellence in all aspects including statistical design, monitoring, and analysis. All work must be done in a manner that assures prompt and timely project prioritization and completion.
The candidates past experience should include a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, curating computing, and analyzing statistical data and large databases, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, tests of significance, (d) handling missing data, (e) traditional and novel modeling techniques, (f) elimination of sources of confounding, (g) comparative effectiveness, (h) causal inference analyses and (i) extrapolation research.
