The Epidemiology Division and it’s Bureau of Epidemiology Services (BES) support the department in its systematic data collection and monitoring, rigorous analysis, and effective data communication. BES seeks to support the department’s provisions of accurate and timely public health data to inform decision-making, to optimize data use, and to ensure accurate analysis of health data.

Job description:

DOHMH has an opening for a Data Visualization Analyst. The Data Visualization Analyst will work with data owners and other stakeholders to create, maintain, and automate data visualizations and reports for City leadership that accurately reflect the scientific landscape of public health in New York City. They will be involved in managing data requests, conducting data cleaning, performing data analysis, and creating visualizations. With support from the team leads and content experts, they will create dashboards/data products that communicate public health impacts and trends citywide and within specific communities and develop documentation to help end users navigate content and understand data limitations. The Data Visualization Analyst will solicit design feedback and implement changes quickly and publish content to Tableau Server with automated extract refreshes. The ideal candidate will be comfortable analyzing and visualizing data across platforms (SQL, R, Python, SAS, Tableau, Datawrapper etc). They will be excited by a fast-paced workplace and energized by data challenges and thorny data problems. Finally, they will be passionate about using design to make complex data insights accessible to leaders and the public.
