The Health Policy Initiative at Tec de Monterrey Graduate School of Government is looking for one full time health policy researcher. The Initiative will conduct research and analysis on the social, economic, and public policy factors that affect health outcomes.

The main challenge of the Researcher is to work on research proposals related to strategic fields aligned to the Health Policy Initiative, as well in support to the research proposals on demand by individual health policy researchers at TEC de Monterrey. In a highly interactive environment, the Health Policy Researcher solves technical issues with a multidisciplinary team, and identifies opportunities by collecting and analyzing strategic information related to research funding at international, and national level. He/She is heavily involved in the search of interdisciplinary institutional research grant proposals, acting as acting as a facilitator and leader for research assitants.

We invite applications from candidates in political science, public policy, health policy, public health, health economics and related social science fields. The search is open with respect to research approach; however, we are interested in candidates with the potential to conduct theoretically informed, methodologically rigorous, and policy-relevant research for publication in top academic journals and other peer-reviewed venues; as well as with the ability to generate products that help to bridge the science-policy nexus. Subfields of health science of interest include health political economy, comparative politics, health systems, health financing, and health policy. Substantive areas in public policy include data sciences for public service and governance, emerging technologies, forecasting sciences, simulation and modeling, social policy, planetary health, public entrepreneurship, public finance and budgeting, health resource planning, and environmental policy. The Tecnológico de Monterrey offers a dynamic academic environment with excellent research support.

In addition to research for publication in specialized journals, researchers are expected to contribute to other academic activities, such as mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and developing new academic modules; as well as in seminars, and research projects carried out with external partners, or general dissemination publications aimed at enriching the public debate on public policy and health. Teaching activity is not required, although it is possible as an academic module professor (profesor de cátedra), according to the needs of academic departments.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must have a strong academic background and demonstrated ability in conducting theoretical and empirical research in one or more of the aforementioned areas. We are interested in both junior and senior scholars. Applications from ABD candidates will be considered if they include a letter from the dissertations chair stating a defense date, which should occur no later than May 2023. Candidates with a relevant master’s degree can be considered. The minimum qualifications are as follows:

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Economics, Public Policy, Public Health, Health Policy, Health Economics, Political Science, Epidemiology, or related areas.
  • Previous research in areas related to the objectives of the position, preferably published in peer reviewed academic journals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Ability and motivation to carry out high-quality interdisciplinary research and analysis that can be published in academic journals.
  • Ability and motivation to develop grant proposals.
  • Capacity and motivation for teaching and for advising postgraduate students.
  • Interest in public policy and in contributing to a more informed and evidence-based public debate.
  • Candidates with a relevant master’s degree who show evidence of significant research published in specialized academic journals relevant to the topic, might be considered.
  • Researchers currently in Mexico ideally form part of the National System of Researchers.
